Since he accepted much of his mothers psychosis as normal behavior, he didn’t always see the world as demented, and he grew accustomed to unusual actions. He even found some of her outlandish behavior charming. Psychologically it helped protect him emotionally from the more frightening aspects of her illness. He learned to expect the unexpected and to think quickly in stressful situations.
